A home astro planetarium is an engaging way to explore stars and constellations without leaving your house. The NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Astro Planetarium Multimedia, manufactured by BRESSER, projects a starry sky onto the ceiling and combines astronomy education with built-in audio features. It is designed for children, families, and anyone interested in learning more about the night sky.
What Is the Home Astro Planetarium?
The NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Astro Planetarium is a compact optical star projector that displays stars and constellations on an indoor ceiling. Its star field can be adjusted according to the date and time, helping users understand how the visible sky changes throughout the year. The integrated motor can also create a moving “shooting star” effect for a more immersive experience.
Unlike a decorative star lamp, this home planetarium is designed to support basic astronomy learning. The included projection discs show stars and constellations, making it easier for children and beginners to recognize familiar patterns in the sky.
Key Features
Accurate Star and Constellation Projection
The projector uses an optical projection system with a high-brightness white LED. Each star disc contains approximately 8,000 stars, while the system displays 61 constellations. The star-field orientation can be adjusted by date and hour.
At a distance of approximately 2 meters, the projected image covers around 1.6 × 2.2 meters. Older documentation lists a projection area of approximately 1.8 × 2.2 meters, so the exact visible size may vary depending on the projection surface and operating conditions.
Built-In FM Radio and Speaker
The Astro Planetarium is more than a star projector. It includes an integrated FM radio and speaker, allowing users to add music or radio audio to the projection. An audio input is also available for connecting an MP3 player or another compatible audio source.
This feature can make the device useful for relaxing evenings, bedtime routines, educational activities, or themed astronomy sessions at home.
Sleep Timer
The device includes a selectable 30- or 60-minute sleep timer. This can be convenient when the projector is used as part of a calm nighttime routine, since it can switch off automatically after the selected period.
Compact Design
The black plastic projector has a compact body measuring approximately 160 × 160 × 200 mm and weighs about 712 g without accessories. With its stand and included components, the total net weight is listed at approximately 775 g.

Who Is It For?
The Home Astro Planetarium is suitable for:
- Children interested in space and astronomy
- Families looking for an educational activity
- Beginners learning major constellations
- Bedrooms, classrooms, and home science projects
- Relaxation and nighttime ambient lighting
It should be used under adult supervision, particularly by younger children. The product is not suitable for children under three years because of small parts and electronic components.
Final Verdict
The NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Home Astro Planetarium offers an accessible introduction to astronomy in a compact format. Its combination of star and constellation projection, date-and-time adjustment, FM radio, audio input, shooting-star effect, and sleep timer makes it more versatile than a standard decorative star projector.
For families and young astronomy enthusiasts, it provides an entertaining way to explore the night sky indoors. While it is not a replacement for a telescope or a professional planetarium, it is a practical educational tool for learning basic constellations and enjoying a relaxing space-themed atmosphere at home.
